DiaspoRican was birthed from a desire to provide resources for people serious about representing and celebrating their culture...
DiaspoRican is a conglomerate of "Diaspora" and "Puerto Rican." Why the fusion of these two words? Well...as a researcher of various aspects of Puerto Rican culture, I am especially focused on documenting the lives, her/histories, and experiences of Boricuas in the Diaspora (or outside the Island.) Using this term is not an attempt to create yet another empty label; instead its usage is a declaration of identity, an acknowledgement of location.
DiaspoRican was started in Humboldt Park/Logan Square in Chicago, Illinois but is intended to represent Boricuas from wherever they might be located. This is one of the ideas that undergirds our slogan: "de aqui y de alla" ("from here and from there.")
